How does the Chillow® work?

The Chillow uses SoothSoft® Comfort Technology to provide cooling without using electricity or refrigeration.  By combining the right materials and an ingenious, patented design, the Chillow® stays at room temperature which is always cooler than your body.  The precise way Chillow chills is a secret. It absorbs heat from your body and releases it into the air around you.  The Chillow® is meant to be pleasantly cool, but not cold because cold is uncomfortable to your body.

What does the Chillow® feel like?

It was designed with comfort in mind, so the Chillow® feels like cool, soft glove leather. Rub your cheek across the Chillow® and it feels like the kiss of a gentle breeze.  It is a very soothing, relaxing, and comforting feeling.

Is it supposed to be cool all the time?

One important thing is to let the air get to it.  Keep it on top of your pillow or in the coolest area of your home, never in direct sunlight or near a heat source.  If you want it even cooler, you can put your Chillow® in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes. This makes Chillow® a super cooler. NEVER put it in the freezer - that will damage the material and void your warranty.

Remember:  following the activation instructions carefully and maintaining the vacuum by removing all air once a month will ensure your Chillow® gives you maximum performance for years.

How do I make it the coolest it can be?

The Chillow® was designed to match your body's cooling needs.  After an active day, when your metabolism is high and you are hot, the Chillow® is cool and refreshing. But in the early morning hours, when your metabolism has slowed and your body is cooler, the Chillow® will be only slightly cool or tepid which is exactly what your body needs.  After you get out of bed, the Chillow® loses any accumulated heat so it's ready when you need its coolness.  There is no maintenance required, except  to sweep away any accumulated air once per month. It takes just a couple of minutes and restores the vacuum that maintains coolness.  NB: Keep out of direct sunlight.

Can I use it on my skin?

Absolutely.  The Chillow® is made of super-soft medical-grade materials that are hypoallergenic and non-toxic.

How do I keep it in place in my pillow?

Generally you can slide it inside your pillow case on top of your pillow and rest your head on it.  However, some pillows have a linen-type outer texture that the Chillow® cannot grip well.  To solve the problem:

   1. Try positioning your Chillow® higher on your pillow so it cannot slide down.
   2. Sleep directly on the Chillow® so the fuzzy side grips the cotton pillow case.
   3. Try using a different pillow.
   4. Make sure your pillow is flat on your bed.

The Inside of my Chillow® has bunched up.  What can I do to fix it and why has this happened?

The core of the Chillow® can bunch up if air is allowed into the Chillow.  To fix the problem, undo the stopper and allow air to enter, If possible blow into the Chillow® as if blowing up a balloon, this will make it much easier to reposition the inner core by holding one corner with your finger while moving and gently shaking the Chillow® to reposition the core to its correct position.  Full details of this are listed on the instruction sheet.

Can my Pets sleep on the Chillow®?

NO, the Chillow® is only for Human use.  Pets have sharp claws and will void the warranty.  Please also note that careful use of the Chillow® is important for longevity, as earring studs and other sharp objects can also puncture the Chillow® and void the warranty.  Any Manufacturing default is covered by our 12 month warranty.

What if I don't like my Chillow® after I have tried it?

Chillow® can take some people a few days to get used to the cooling sensation as your body is not used to this new sensation.  It can also take a few days for the Chillow® to ‘wear in' and ‘loosen up'.  For these reasons we give you a no worry 30 day moneyback guarantee that allows you to return Chillow® to us for a refund.  However we feel confident that after a few days of experiencing Chillow® you will not want to let it go.

Can I drain my Chillow® of water for travelling and do I ever have to add more water?

The Chillow® has been designed for one time activation only using 4 pints of ordinary tap water and should not really be drained after this process is complete.  However, if you really must remove the water you can gently empty as much as you can from the Chillow® and reactivate by adding water until the overall weight of the Chillow® is 1950 grms.  You can only do this by weighing the Chillow® on kitchen scales and then adding water until the weight is achieved.  To complete the process brush the air out from the Chillow® as before and leave for 2 hours before using.  This is the only way to refill a Chillow® as the specialist core once activated will always hold on to some of the water and so make any future filling difficult to judge.

What is the size and weight of the Chillow®?

The Chillow® when activated is 20.5 inches (52cm) Long, by 13.5 inches (34.5cm) Wide, by 3/4 inch (2cm) Deep.  The Chillow® when activated weights 1950 grms.

PLEASE NOTE: The Chillow® is NOT a PILLOW but is a cooling pad which can be used in conjunction with your current pillow.  The Chillow® can be placed inside the pillow slip or sit on top and is in itself NOT a replacement to your pillow.

Can I use the Chillow® outside?

Yes and no.  The product is not meant to be used in direct sunlight because sun may discolour the Chillow® but will not damage it otherwise.  However, direct sunlight will heat it up. If used outside, on a lawn chair for example, cover it with your t-shirt or a thin cloth to protect it from the sun but let the cooling come through. It will keep you cool for an hour or so.  Then let it recharge in the house at room temperature or put it in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes for a quicker recharge.
